Tim Hayden, principal at TTH-Strategy, joins the Marketing Nation to explore the true power of mobile, the future of QR codes, and the reasoning behind why the mobile platform is so unique.
After many, many years in the agency world, Tim has recently moved away from the tactical side of mobile and more into the strategic side. As a result of his experience founding a software company called 44Doors and working in the mobile division at Edelman, Tim has amassed the knowledge and expertise in helping brands understand both the challenges and opportunities presented by what Tim calls, “the mobile proliferation.” He is able to help people move beyond the idea that a mobile-friendly website is all companies need to succeed in a world that is increasingly dominated by mobile usage.
Why did Tim begin focusing strictly on mobile? What makes it so different from other platforms? Mobile is everywhere, and it is connected to everything – from Bluetooth to the cloud to each other and soon, to appliances and more! Google’s recent acquisition of Nest and Apple’s unveiling of CarPlay proves that the Internet of Things will not just be the next shiny object and more companies need to embrace the change.
One of the most compelling reasons that mobile is here to stay is that it removes friction and enhances users’ lives. Having a vast amount of information at the tap of a screen is both efficient and empowering. However, this brings up the issue of security and privacy, which is one of the biggest concerns among brands and users alike. If you’re allowing the network to see where you are and what you’re doing on your phone, how can you be sure that your private information isn’t being shared as well?
