This week, Bryan Kramer joins the podcast to discuss his new podcast (From the Author's Point of View), how to build your “social body language," and why companies need to encourage an entrepreneurial culture among employees.
As President and CEO of PureMatter, Bryan works with and promotes a lot of smart content creation for brands. In fact, the story behind how Bryan and DJ met is directly tied to content marketing and social media.
Everybody uses social media differently. Some people use it to broadcast and some people use it to have conversations, and this became clear from Bryan and DJ’s #90DaystoEllen campaign. The campaign was designed to get Ellen DeGeneres to have lunch with Bryan and DJ while also raising money for Feeding America. Ellen may not have been paying attention to the tweets, podcasts, mentions, and blog posts, but it was still a great exercise in social media (and ended up winning a Content Marketing Contest of the Year from Content Marketing Institute!).
It’s clear that Bryan believes that social media is really about the people and the connections. Oftentimes, he has noticed, the people who are working at companies (as opposed to starting their own businesses) want to be able to be creative and feel ownership for what they’re doing. He provides an anecdote from back in the days when he worked for Dominoes Pizza. His experience with creating something useful for them may have been a huge hit for his customer base, but rubbed the corporation the wrong way. This interesting story may have panned out differently today given the appreciation for employees and social nature of communications that many companies now embody as a result of the advances in technology.
